Hi Melissa!
It's always nice to see that young people can develop an obsession passion for OTR as well  :)   besides,  It moves me to think that it was passed on to you by your grandfather.

Coffee is not an obsession. From what I've seen, it is a way of life.

But then again, life is an obsession.

I got into OTR in a roundabout way. In the 1970s I began collecting antique light fixtures (1890s to 1920s) so later other vintage electrical equipment began to catch my eye. Antique Radios were the obvious next step, I was using these radios as radios, not decorations! In the 1990s got a 1938-1940 Zenith Console from Philadelphia (Still has the pre-sets for pre WWII Philly stations!) It has a "Television" input! I wired up a "walkman" type cord to it, Think "Ipod" plug on a modern boombox. Initally I used this to put FM on this radio, Then I thought, "It would be cool to play stuff on this radio that might Have BEEN on it when new. Thus I began collecting (on cassettes!) old radio shows. At the same time TV began a steep decline in quality! I began to enjoy the radio shows on their own (rather than just a novelty to show off my Zenith!) Now today thanks to the Internet, I have all these radio shows to enjoy! My regular TV veiwing is just news and ME-TV or DVDs!  I played "Sam Spade - Betrayal in Bumpass Hell" for my 12 year old neice and I think a new OTR fan is born! (She demanded a copy!)

Hi James, great to have you aboard!   Very cool story - it's amazing how one thing can lead to another  :)
I love old radios, too, but here in Italy radios were never as beautiful as those you had in the US (not that I could afford to collected anyway...).   Besides, they spread mostly in the 50's and 60's, I believe.   I've never seen any of the truly big ones around here...
Some day, though,  I'll find a broken one, connect it to my cd player and listen to OTR in a more "vintage" fashion - that's something I've wanted to do since I discovered these shows a few years ago.
As to TV, I have no antenna, and you'll find there are people on this forum who don't even own a TV set...

What is your favorite OTR show (or kind of show)?

I remember long ago us having a large radio, one of those massive things the size of a desk. It had a record player in it, nice real wood. When a neighbor had moved she gave it to us. I guess she didn't have room for it and no attachment to it. We had to do the same thing when we moved years later to another neighbor. I wonder how it is doing now?
