A New Addition...
« on: May 22, 2013, 08:25:20 AM »
Mum called me and told me about this find at a rummage sale. I told her to buy it for me ($10US) and I picked it up. That is all.

Very nice find.  It looks to be in pretty decent shape, especially for that price.

Thanks all! It doesn't work, probably because the power cord is in terrible shape, some of the tubes look burned out (yes, there are real tubes in there), and some of the knobs don't look as if they work correctly...

From what you say, it could be easily fixed... James joined the forum today, maybe he could give you some advice.
Even if it didn't work, though, I so wish I had it   :(

(and for the records, something like that over here would sell for at least 200 euros - I often wonder if you darn Americans realize how freakin' lucky you are...)

Here's the thing, though: it was a steal at that price. Radios in non-working condition in that kind of shape normally go for $300USD (about 232EUR)...

I'll be buying a lot of furniture soon and I was looking into cathedral radios with modern equipment- CD, MP3 input, USB port etc. It seems that there is really only one company that makes them new, Crosley, and they get universally bad reviews. It is hard to find anyone selling refurbished ones.

Barry, check out this link.  http://steampunkworkshop.com/

I've seen pics of their stuff going viral, and they have some step-by-step instructions for the projects they've worked on.  This may be a place to start for a guide on making your own instead of trying to buy.  Hope it helps!  GOOD LUCK!
