Favorite Suspense Episode
« on: February 22, 2013, 05:48:19 PM »
If you had to choose, what would be your favorite of Suspense be?

Mine would be "Sorry Wrong Number" written by Lucille Fletcher and starring Agnes Moorehead, It was an absolutely brilliant episode. Next would be the episode where a woman is drugged, kidnapped, and almost killed by a schizophrenic diner employee. (I can't remember the name of that episode.)

Mine would be "Sorry, Wrong Number" by a country mile. The one with the woman in the diner was great too.

There are a lot of them I haven't listened to yet, but I would go with "The Hitchiker" or "Sorry Wrong Number." I know that isn't one episode. That may change the more I listen.

I enjoy both of those.  I could also put in, "Donovan's Brain".

While I love "The Hitchhiker" and "Sorry, Wrong Number," I think "Ghost Hunt" is still my favorite because it's just so fun.

Don't get me wrong, I like Sorry Wrong Number and The Hitchhiker, but I'm going to say something different. I just don't want you to think I don't like those episodes. I'd say they are classics, but aren't these all really classics? So that would be stupid.

Anyway, I like the ones that really did keep me in Suspense. The edge of the seat episodes that made me say to myself, "where is this going to go?" The ones that I clearly recall of the hundreds I've listened to (Damn the MP3. You get 100 in a row).
Like Will You Make A Bet With Death. Wow.
Five Canaries In A Room. I couldn't help but wonder how they did it.
The Most Dangerous Game. I've been meaning to see the movie ever since.
You Take Ballistics. It was worth it to see how Jack Webb was going to get him in the end because you knew he would.
Dead Ernest. Just a crazy scenario.
I think that's it.

I am totally forgetting the name but a crook dies in a carnival funhouse when a giant mechanical man crushes him. The machine's laugh was a pretty good imitation of Jabba the Hutt. (Retroactively, that is.)

I think that one is "Goodnight Mrs. Russell" with Bette Davis.  I loved it too!

And Barry, I remember everything about yours... except the title.  Did it star Elliot Lewis?  The title was the name of the mythological giant that's blocking the protagonist in the funhouse, but I can't remember it... 'The Troglodyte'?  'The... The...'  Groan!  I'll never get to sleep now!

Also, I'm finding it too hard to pick a single favourite episode of 'Suspense' - there's just too many perfect ones - but a lot of my favourites are the ones with Whistler-esque twists like 'Backseat Driver', 'Chicken Feed', 'The Lunch Kit', 'DeMortuis', 'John Barby & Son', 'or 'Back for Christmas'.

That sounds like "The Giant of Thermopylae" if I'm thinking of the same one.

That's the one! I completely forgot that Bette Davis was Mrs. Russell!

If I remember right there are a couple of versions of The Most Dangerous Game. I would recommend the one with Fay Wray. They basically re-used the sets from King Kong.

That's a good version, Meow. Joel McRae is in it too, right?
